About the China Internet User Data Report

Since 1997, the China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC) has been authorised to conduct the Statistical Survey on Internet Development in China, releasing the China Internet Users data “Report” twice yearly. With 52 reports published to date, it is a crucial reference for policymakers, industry players, scholars, and the public.

– As of June 2023, China’s netizen population reached 1,079 million, up by 11.09 million from December 2022, with Internet penetration at 76.4%, an increase of 0.8 percentage points.

– By June 2023, mobile Internet users in China totaled 1,076 million, a rise of 11.09 million from December 2022, constituting 99.8% of China’s netizens.

– Urban Internet users numbered 777 million, comprising 72.1% of the national total, while rural Internet users totalled 301 million, representing 27.9%.

– As of June 2023, the percentages of Chinese netizens accessing the Internet via mobile phones, desktop computers, laptop computers, TVs, and tablet computers were 99.8%, 34.4%, 32.4%, 26.8%, and 28.6%, respectively.

– The number of search engine users in China was 841 million by June 2023, up 39.63 million from December 2022, representing 78.0% of all netizens.

– Live streaming users in China totaled 765 million by June 2023, an increase of 14.74 million from December 2022, accounting for 71.0% of all Internet users.

– Online games users in China numbered 550 million by June 2023, up 28.06 million from December 2022, making up 51.0% of all Internet users.

– Online literature users in China reached 528 million by June 2023, up 35.92 million from December 2022, comprising 49.0% of all Internet users.

– By June 2023, online meal ordering users in China reached 535 million, marking an increase of 13.72 million from December 2022, representing 49.6% of the total netizen population.

– The user base of online car-hailing services in China reached 472 million by June 2023, up 34.92 million from December 2022, comprising 43.8% of all Internet users.

– Online travel booking services in China had a user base of 454 million by June 2023, up 30.91 million from December 2022, accounting for 42.1% of all Internet users.
